Cunard Line Awarded Five HSMAI Awards for Excellence in Public Relations
The inaugural year publicity campaign for Queen Mary 2 was awarded four Golds and one Platinum at HSMAI's annual International Travel Competition gala last month in New York.
Collaborating with Cunard on public relations for Queen Mary 2 was M. Silver Associates of New York who accepted four Golds including Feature Broadcast Placement (Entertainment Tonight); two Feature Print Placements (Time Magazine and USA Today); and New Ship Launch. Crowning the impressive roster of kudos was the Platinum Award -- also for New Ship Launch.
The campaign included a comprehensive media relations program beginning with the construction of the vessel following through its christening by Queen Elizabeth II of England. Numerous celebrity events, and hosting over 400 on board press resulted in more than 20 hours of international television coverage and a total of nearly 250 million media impressions.
"Our goal was to communicate that a voyage on Queen Mary 2 epitomizes a return to the Golden Age of Travel highlighted by the luxury, elegance and civility of a bygone era," says David Gevanthor, Cunard Line's vice president of marketing. "The arrival of Queen Mary 2, the first ocean liner built in more than 30 years, was greeted with a fanfare of global editorial coverage, reflective of our positive collaboration with M. Silver Associates."
Queen Mary 2 is the largest (151,400 tons), longest (1,132 feet), tallest (236 feet), widest (135 feet) and most expensive ($800 million) passenger vessel ever built. There are 1,310 suites and staterooms available in degrees of style and comfort ranging from pampered elegance to almost unimaginable luxury.
